Andrena ignota is a solitary bee species known from just one occurrence record. The record is from Florence County, South Carolina, United States. It was recorded in 1916, and has not been observed since. Due to limited observations of the species, calculation of the extent of occurrence is not possible. There is no associated information about the habitat or ecology of this species. Specific threats to the species have not been identified. It may be subject to threats acting on other bee species, such as climate change, pesticide exposure, and habitat loss. More information is needed to determine if this species is still extant, and to understand its habitat and ecology. Food habits comment: There is no information about the dietary habits of this species. Habitat comment: There is no available habitat information associated with this species. This single occurrence is located on urban land, but locational accuracy of this occurrence is likely low based on its collection date. Reproduction comment: This species likely nests underground like all other Andrena (Danforth et al. 2019), but nests from this species have not been described. Nest cells from other members of this genus are located at the ends of the lateral burrows, which are typically lined with a waxy Dufour’s gland secretion (Cane 1981) that serves to both isolate the provision from pathogens in the surrounding soil and to regulate water uptake from the soil atmosphere (Cane and Love 2021). Females provision each cell with a ball of pollen moistened with nectar on which they lay a single egg (Michener 2007). Phenology comment: The single record of this species comes from October (Chesshire et al. 2023). Its phenology is not understood. Adults are assumed to emerge annually (Danforth et al. 2019).
